Japanese Knotweed Powder

This is dried, powdered, Japanese Knotweed root (Polygonum cuspidatum), harvested wild in Eastern Ontario in 2022.

We harvest in the spring and in late fall, when the root is at its most potent. Then we wash all of our roots by hand, and dry them conscientiously. When it comes to grinding our knotweed powder, we do it in small batches to keep temperature down and preserve the potency of this powerful herb.

Japanese knotweed root is part of the traditional East Asian pharmacopeia. It’s most commonly known as Hu Zhang and Itadori, and is used to “excrete dampness and remove jaundice, clear heat and remove toxicity, resolve blood stasis and stop pain, resolve phlegm and relieve cough.” (https://tcmwiki.com/wiki/hu-zhang) It’s also been shown to have high concentrations of resveratrol, the compound that has made red wine’s health effects so famous.

All of our Knotweed root is harvested wild on private land that we are certain is free from contamination and biocide spraying.
